A stateside move can be a huge transition in of itself. Moving to another country takes it to a completely new level. Especially if its your first time.
I feel that it’s important to mention I did some serious reading and preparing the moment I found out I was pregnant. I knew from the beginning I wanted a natural, unmedicated birth. I believe because I educated myself on the many options surrounding labor and delivery, I was able to have an empowering birth experience. Besides all the research, I also watched many natural birth documentaries, hired a doula and signed myself up the Hypnobirthing childbirth series here on island.
The stresses of being military and having separations from your spouse or significant other, or being a single parent pose an especially unique challenge to our community. Many service members don’t know where to go or who to turn to in this special time in their lives and feel incredibly alone.
Time after time, I hear stories of women who are in the birthing room by themselves for one reason or another. There are many different reasons, but often mom is alone because her spouse is deployed, she is a single active duty mom, or perhaps she is stationed halfway around the world and does not have access to a good support network.
