Providing resources for Military Families in Northern Virginia (Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax County, Prince William County, Loudoun County)

Professional members

We are happy to provide listings for your community.  The birth professionals listed have endorsed the MBRNPC Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and where applicable they have a base license. These professionals endorse our goal to make a positive difference for pregnant women, new mothers, and their families through education, nurturing, and advocacy while fostering respect, knowledge, and integrity among professionals everywhere.

Find  a birth or postpartum doula. There are a range of levels of experience for doulas from the newly trained doula to a doula with many years experience.  There are a range of "well seasoned" to "brand new" doulas to fit your needs. Doulas listed on our website do not work for MBRNPC or the Local Chapter.  We support a mother's right to choose the type of birth that is right for her - un-medicated, medicated, cesarean, VBAC, home birth, hospital birth, or birth center birth.  Every woman will choose birth practices that she feels is right for her and regardless of those choices, our goal is to support her during this incredibly important time.  There are variations in philosophies and practices in the professionals listed in our member guide.  The doulas within our network are trained by a national or internationally recognized organization.  It is the responsibility of each consumer to verify the credentials of each professional.  MBRNPC encourages consumers to interview professionals to determine which professional is the right person for their needs.  Some doulas may provide volunteer services while others will charge a fee for service, MBRNPC does not regulate a doulas' fee but the network does encourage doulas participating in this program to consider each families' situation and circumstances.

Not Your Mama's Birth Services offers birth classes, one-on-one birth planning, as well as postpartum support. N.Y.M. strives to offer what most birth classes historically have not, and that's a fresh take on how to prepare your mind and body for the work that is to come in labor and delivery and discussions about childbirth rights and what the fourth trimester looks like. During the weekly two hour long sessions lasting 5 weeks, expecting parents will learn details about the physiology of birth, consent, ways to prepare for labor, birth, and early postpartum, as well as all interventions available to those headed towards the big push around the 40 week mark.

Clients can expect to receive valuable resources and techniques, handouts for use during the rest of pregnancy and birth, the opportunity to receive one-on-one guidance, and most importantly the quiet confidence to advocate for their birth experience, themselves, and their baby.

Hello, my name is Rissa Joos. I am a TRICARE and Medicaid certified birth and postpartum doula and a veteran Air Force medic. I have extensive experience, both professionally and personally, with pregnant, laboring, and postpartum people and their families, in hospitals and at home. I understand the ebb and flow of military life around pregnancy and birth because I worked labor and delivery for many years as a medic. I look forward to hearing from you and exploring the ways I can support you through your upcoming birth.

Greetings! I am the proud owner of Dignity Doula, LLC. I believe everyone should be treated with Dignity, Honor, and Respect throughout their birthing experience. I am a DONA and Mama Glow trained birth doula and childbirth educator servicing the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC area. I also offer postpartum, placenta encapsulation and maternity reiki services.

As a U.S. Army Veteran, I am extremely passionate about service members. After serving 24 years in the military, I understand first-hand the challenges active-duty members and spouses face while simultaneously serving our country. I recognize deployments, late hours in the office, endless military schools/training requirements and single parenting often causes additional stress during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

With a Master of Social Work degree, I understand the need to provide emotional support and reflective listening when engaging with clients. Through working as a doula, I can combine my passion for supporting people with my devotion to childbirth. I also believe that a person’s race should never determine their health outcomes, and pregnancy and childbirth should be dignified and safe for all. I do recognize health disparities and inequities exist across cultural, economic, and social demographics, which further fuels my passion for birth work. I look forward to advocating and working alongside side of you during your birthing experience.

Absolutely, I offer a military discount!

"You are worthy of Dignity, Honor and Respect"
