Birthing in Okinawa: A positive delivery

Birthing in Okinawa: A positive delivery

I feel that it’s important to mention I did some serious reading and preparing the moment I found out I was pregnant. I knew from the beginning I wanted a natural, unmedicated birth. I believe because I educated myself on the many options surrounding labor and delivery, I was able to have an empowering birth experience. Besides all the research, I also watched many natural birth documentaries, hired a doula and signed myself up the Hypnobirthing childbirth series here on island.

Do I need to hire a doula?

Do I need to hire a doula?

Thinking about childbirth is scary, and if you listen to some of your friend’s stories, oh no, things can seem bad! Whether you are pregnant with your first baby or pregnant with your fourth, you should consider hiring a birth doula. Besides the benefit of having your own extra non-biased support person, there is actual evidence based information that hiring a doula can improve your overall birth experience.

Maybe you’ve heard of a doula.  Maybe not. When I first meet a woman and begin to explain what my role as a doula is, I usually get the comments of, “So you’re like a midwife.” Or “My friend had a doula and she left because she got an epidural.”
